The Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas, or simply Botafogo, is a Brazilian multisport club based in the neighborhood bearing the same name as the club, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Born from the merger of Club de Regatas Botafogo (founded for rowing in 1894) with Botafogo Football Club (formed for football in 1904), it is one of the main clubs in Brazil. Its greatest sporting achievements come primarily from football, especially during the 1950s and 1960s, considered its golden era.
